Michelle M. Kavanaugh
Michelle Kavanaugh joined Spesia & Taylor as a Law Clerk in May of 2022 and as an Associate Attorney in November of 2023. Michelle earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois -Chicago School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in social work at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Michelle graduated from the University of Illinois – Chicago School of Law, magna cum laude, with a Juris Doctorate in May of 2023. While in law school, Michelle was a member of the UIC Law Review and worked on the Executive Board as a Lead Articles Editor. Michelle participated in Moot Court and was awarded Best Petitioner Oralist in the Dean Fred F. Herzog Moot Court Competition in 2022. Michelle was also a Teaching Assistant for UIC’s Lawyering Skills III: Appellate Advocacy class and worked as a 711 Student Attorney in the UIC Fair Housing Clinic where she received the Community Legal Clinic Scholarship for demonstrated dedication to and performance of direct legal services to clients.
Since joining Spesia & Taylor, Michelle’s practice has focused on the firm’s litigation groups, including complex commercial litigation, personal injury, contract litigation, and municipal law. Michelle has both pre-trial and trial experience and was part of the firm’s litigation team that successfully obtained an injunction in a complex commercial litigation case. In addition, Michelle assisted Attorneys Jake Gancarczyk and John Spesia on appeals in the Third and Fourth District Appellate Courts, which both resulted in a favorable rulings for the clients.
