Spesia & Taylor Partner John Spesia’s expertise in the area of utility and pipeline eminent domain litigation was recognized when he was invited to be a featured speaker at the Annual Meeting of the Appraisal Institute, a gathering of real estate appraisers from around the country who assemble to learn about recent developments impacting their profession. Former Appraisal Institute President Joseph Magdziarz said,

Mr. Spesia was part of a panel of experts convened to discuss their experience with “condemnation issues for valuation of pipeline and utility easements.”
Along with John Spesia, the panel of experts discussing eminent domain issues included former President of the Appraisal Institute Joseph Magdziarz, MAI, and Joseph E. Batis, MAI. The topics covered by Mr. Spesia included key issues pertaining to the valuation of permanent and temporary easement rights for pipelines and other utilities in eminent domain litigation. John provided his insight into an appraiser’s role in both the negotiation phase and the litigation phase of an eminent domain action. Along with the other distinguished members of the panel, Mr. Spesia also addressed generally-accepted appraisal methodologies when approaching the issue of remainder damage.
