Spesia & Taylor attorneys John Spesia and Michael Stiff settled a personal injury case for a client who was struck by an F550 truck while making a protected left turn with a green arrow in Bolingbrook in 2012. The client, a 46-year-old medical coder, suffered a traumatic brain injury, double vision, a permanently dilated pupil, and post-concussion syndrome with permanent cognitive impairments as well as a torn rotator cuff which was surgically repaired.
After the incident, the client lost her job as a medical coder, but had recently returned to work part time.
The driver of the F550 truck claimed that he had a green light and that he had not disobeyed the traffic signal. However, his claims were contradicted by eyewitness testimony and Village of Bolingbrook witnesses testified that an annual inspection of the traffic signal was performed only days before the collision, and confirmed that it was in working order on the day of the crash.
With the case set to go to trial in late June, 2017, the defendants’ counsel approached the Spesia & Ayers team with a settlement proposal, and attorneys John Spesia and Michael Stiff were able to secure a $750,000.00 settlement for the Plaintiff, thus bringing her case to a successful conclusion and obtaining for her the compensation to which she was entitled.
